ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH

- made in Mongolia -

In order to create clothing in a sustainable way, we focus on producing our products in our home country - Mongolia. In any case we want to assure our costumers where and how our products are being made. Few things you should know about us:

We work directly with our manufacturers. We want to educate our community about materials and fabrics we use and who is responsible for making them. We use transparency as a key impact on decision making regarding sustainable and meaningful clothing.

For our Bomber Jackets and Deels we work closely with two female tailors in their 50's from Ulan-Bator.  The materials we use are mostly sourced from local markets. They differ from Silk to Cotton. Depending on the seller, we find various fabrics from Japan, China or Korea.

Regarding our Shearling Coats and Leather Jackets, we have a close relationship to the company "DARKHAN NEKHII", a Mongolian leather manufactory. They use the skin and fur of free roaming animals from the countryside which were treated for their meat, primarily. So the clothing is created in a cruelty free environment, which applies sustainability and total usage. Therefore the variation of colors and lack of perfection is due to the fact of natural effects and non industrial farming.

In case of our Cashmere Coats and Knitwear, we work with the Company "BUYAN", one of the first cashmere producing companies in Mongolia founded in the early 90's.

A little story about our precious little goats, providing the world with their soft little fibers:

Cashmere from Mongolia is very valuable. No other material is as delicate, soft, light and warm as cashmere. The reason why Mongolia provides the best cashmere is mainly because it has arctic cold of 40 ° C below zero, hurricanes and harsh conditions almost 9 months a year. During this time, the Mongolian goats protect themselves with a smooth, very soft, almost silky down hair that grows under the rough top hair. In May or June, the smooth goat hair is being combed with a steel comb by their nomad owners by hand. It takes between 4 and 6 goats to make a single sweater, and up to 20 for a cardigan. The fleece of a 3-5 year old goat is the best. In average a goat can only produce the raw material for a single sweater during its lifetime - thats why we treasure our natural product very highly.

Two-thread or not two-thread

Two criteria are important for the quality of cashmere: the length and the fineness of the fibers. The secret of the highest quality is the use of two or single ply yarn. For the production of the extremely fine yarn “two-ply”, it is important that only fibers with a cross section from 14 micron to 16 micron with a length of 50 mm are used. The raw material of this sophistication comes exclusively from Mongolia. While normal single-ply cashmere yarn "one ply" has a thread length of 13,000 to 16,000 m per kg, you need a thread length of 28,000 m per kg for the "two-ply". This twisted yarn is stronger and more elastic than a single-thread yarn and causes fewer "wool bulbs ”(Small balls that appear when small parts of the yarn fibers are felted, for example on a sweater). Small dark hairs on the cashmere show that it is natural and of the best quality. Natural white cashmere is very rare because there are few white cashmere goats. Cashmere is sold in grams and because of its high value, not only the quality, but also the length and weight are important for the price. Cashmere yarn must be washed in cold water at a temperature of around 10 - 20 ° C. If the fibers are exposed to very cold or hot water for a long time, a small part of the substance can disappear. It should only be dried at room temperature.
